How Often Should You Charge an E-Bike Battery?

Many riders believe they should always charge their battery to 100 % after each ride. This habit could be what’s killing their battery.
Most e-bikes have lithium batteries, and they can degrade over time. If the battery gets charged to 100 %, but then the e-bike sits around for periods of time the degradation is very likely to occur. If you pack your e-bike away over the colder seasons, don’t fully charge it first.
However, if the bike is sitting in storage the battery should still be charged every few weeks to balance the cells. It doesn’t have to be fully charged, anywhere between 30 and 60 percent is ideal to improve the battery’s capacity.
An e-bike battery will last longer if you don’t fully charge it. That same theory should be applied to draining the battery as well. You shouldn’t get in the habit of running your battery down to 0 % either because that is also harmful. It’s okay if this happens once in a while, but not recommended to do often if you want to preserve the battery’s lifespan.
On average, these batteries should last between 2 and 4 years. Making sure you take good care of them and charge them properly, you should be able to make them last for a few years.
Will Riding an E-Bike in the Rain Affect the Battery?
The rain shouldn’t affect your e-bike’s battery because most e-bike batteries are waterproof. While they are safe to ride around in the rain, that doesn’t mean you should submerge them in water. Taking an e-bike out in the rain shouldn’t affect how long the battery lasts.
